What is spec.S?

  • Compatible from stock turbine vehicles to boost-up specifications An entry-level model that considers not only the improvement of cooling performance for sports driving but also the vehicle performance when replacing the stock unit under normal specifications.

  • Reduction of Pressure Loss = Improved Response While ensuring the response performance required by boost-up users, stable intake air temperatures are achieved using inner offset fins.

What is spec.R?

  • Increased Cooling Efficiency = Improvement of High Output Cooling efficiency, which is the most important factor for an intercooler, fluctuates due to various conditions such as the size of the core and tanks, the shape of the tubes and fins, the flow of intake air, and the dwell time.
In the intercooler spec.R, we have succeeded in improving cooling performance and stabilizing intake air temperatures by optimizing the side tanks, cooling fins, and tube shapes.
Compared to the conventional spec.S, we repeatedly conducted tests and brushed up the shapes of each part to ensure that the pressurized air flows into the tubes inside the core with a good balance, resulting in the birth of the spec.R.
The improvement in cooling performance and the stabilization of intake air temperatures realize further power increases.
From the above, it can be said that the improvement in cooling efficiency leads to the improvement of high output.

  • The Relationship Between Pressure Loss and Cooling Efficiency In order to improve cooling performance, it is necessary to let the air dwell longer in the tubes and apply ambient airflow to the fins.
However, if the tubes are simply made larger to increase the dwelling air, pressure loss also increases, causing a drop in response.
Conversely, if the air is allowed to pass through the tubes without much dwelling, cooling performance decreases, and only response improves by the amount the pressure loss was reduced.
From the above, pressure loss and cooling efficiency are in a trade-off relationship. In extreme cases, it is necessary to choose appropriately between prioritizing response or prioritizing cooling, according to the driving stage and the required specifications.

  • HPI’s Development Concept The spec.R is a model intended for use in all stages from street to circuit, and it balances cooling performance and response at a high level to support everything from stock to boost-up and large-capacity turbines. It exhibits stable cooling performance not only for temporary cooling effects and peak power but also in severe conditions such as sports driving, continuous laps where intake air temperatures tend to rise, and situations where ambient airflow does not easily reach the intercooler, making it possible to draw out the original power of the vehicle that surpasses the stock unit.
Since the control by the computer is greatly involved in the output characteristics, further high output is realized by rewriting the settings for fuel, ignition, electronic control, etc., to match the cooling effect of the spec.R.
