What is spec.S?

  • Compatible from stock turbine vehicles to boost-up specifications An entry-level model designed not only to improve cooling performance for sports driving but also to maintain performance when used as a direct replacement for the stock unit.

  • Reduced Pressure Loss = Improved Response While ensuring the response performance required by boost-up users, the inner offset fins realize stable intake temperatures.

What is spec.R?

  • Enhanced Cooling Efficiency = Improved High-Output Performance Cooling efficiency—the most critical factor for an intercooler—varies based on core and tank size, tube/fin shape, intake airflow, and dwell time. In the spec.R, we successfully achieved superior cooling performance and stable intake temperatures by optimizing the side tanks, cooling fins, and tube geometry.
Compared to the conventional spec.S, we repeatedly tested and refined various shapes to ensure that compressed air flows with optimal balance into the core tubes, leading to the birth of the spec.R.
Improved cooling performance and stable intake temperatures enable even greater power gains. Thus, improved cooling efficiency leads directly to improved high-output performance.

  • The Relationship Between Pressure Loss and Cooling Efficiency To improve cooling performance, it is necessary to let air dwell longer in the tubes and expose the fins to more ambient airflow.
However, simply increasing tube size to hold more air increases pressure loss, leading to a drop in response.
Conversely, if air passes through the tubes too quickly without enough dwell time, cooling performance drops, and only response improves due to the decreased pressure loss.
Therefore, pressure loss and cooling efficiency are in a trade-off relationship. In extreme cases, it is necessary to choose appropriately between prioritizing response or cooling, depending on the driving stage and desired specs.

  • HPI’s Development Concept The spec.R is designed for all stages, from street to circuit.
It is a model that balances cooling performance and response at a high level to support everything from stock setups to boost-up and large-capacity turbines.
It delivers stable cooling performance even in severe conditions—such as sports driving, continuous laps where intake temperatures rise easily, or situations where airflow to the intercooler is restricted—allowing the vehicle to unleash its true potential beyond factory limits.
Since ECU control significantly affects output characteristics, re-mapping the fuel, ignition, and electronic controls to match the spec.R's cooling effect will enable even higher power gains.
