◆ Enhanced Cooling Efficiency = Maximized Horsepower
Cooling efficiency—the most critical factor for an intercooler—depends on various conditions: core and tank size, tube and fin shape, intake airflow, and dwell time.
For the spec.R, we have successfully stabilized intake temperatures and boosted cooling performance by optimizing the side tanks, cooling fins, and tube geometry. Compared to the spec.S, we conducted rigorous testing to ensure charge air flows with perfect balance through the internal tubes.
This meticulous refinement of every component has resulted in the birth of the spec.R, delivering superior power gains through consistent cooling performance.
◆ The Relationship Between Pressure Drop and Cooling Efficiency
To improve cooling performance, air must stay within the tubes longer to be exposed to the ambient airflow through the fins.
However, simply increasing tube volume to increase dwell time leads to higher pressure drop and sluggish throttle response.
Conversely, allowing air to pass through too quickly reduces cooling performance, improving only response at the cost of intake temperature.
These two factors—Pressure Drop and Cooling Efficiency—exist in a constant trade-off. Depending on the driving stage or required specs, extreme products often force a choice between prioritizing response or cooling.

It provides stable cooling not just for temporary effects or peak power, but also in severe conditions such as consecutive hot laps or low-airflow situations.

Furthermore, by remapping the ECU (fuel, ignition, and electronic controls) to match the spec.R’s superior cooling effects, even higher power outputs can be achieved.
